Jon’s Competes in the P66 Alan Smith Challenge.
On Line Design’s Jon Dixon recently competed in the P66 Alan Smith Challenge.
The Alan Smith Challenge is an annual fun fitness event held by Phillips 66. The event which has been running since 2003 has raised over £50,000 for charities & organisations in memory of one of their employees (Alan Smith).
Jon attended the event on Sunday 9th September where he competed in the full challenge, consisting of a 13-mile run starting at the P66 refinery to Barton-upon-Humber, followed by a 26-mile bike ride back to the refinery via Elsham.
Various members of P66 staff and contractors take part in the event, some doing the full challenge and others opting for a smaller run/ride or just a bike.
Jon was pushed hard all the way and proudly took first place with a winning time of 2:43:10.
Jon is no beginner when it comes to racing. After recently representing Great Britain at the European Championships Jon said; “Being given the opportunity to represent my Country was amazing, and it’s certainly given me the impetus to carry on and make sure I keep representing GB in future years, I appreciate On Line Group’s support in helping me get there.”
Jon joined athletes from other countries at the event in Glasgow, and from the moment he pulled on his Great Britain race suit on the morning of the race he couldn’t help but feel a huge amount of pride - representing his country, was a dream of Jon’s.
Jon said, “I set myself a fairly low goal at the race, with it being an international field the guys I was racing against were the strongest competitors I’ve raced against, I knew it was going to be really tough, but it took so much to get there, I wanted to make sure that I enjoyed the race and did myself, and my supporters proud.
The course was very, very tough, perhaps the hardest I have ever raced on, but as the raced progressed I passed people and progressed through the field before running down the famous triathlon blue carpet. The end was my proudest moment in triathlon.”
Well done Jon in all your achievements.
