Inspiring Women to Choose a Career in Manufacturing or Engineering

On Line Design & Engineering are proud to have supported the Women into Manufacturing and Engineering event at the Baths Hall in Scunthorpe on 3rd March 2020.

The busy day involved a continuous stream of schools and colleges visiting 30 exhibition stands from regional manufacturing and engineering companies. Louise Arnett, HR Director from the On Line Group said, “We are really keen to encourage women to consider careers in engineering. We want to change perceptions some women may have about engineering and open their eyes to the wide range of career opportunities that are available locally. As a multi-disciplined engineering design consultancy, not all our Engineers work in hard hat or in dirty environments.”

In the Humber region, manufacturing contributes 17% of our employment compared with 8.7% for England – this number is set to grow thanks to the growth and investment in renewable energy. However, despite the high demand for people with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) qualifications, women are under-represented in these roles. On Line Design are keen to support the Women into Manufacturing and Engineering initiative aiming to change this and highlight the career opportunities to women locally.

Attendees from On Line Design included: Louise Arnett, HR Director; Lucy Martin, Instrument Junior Designer; Agnes Sojka, Surveyor; Jazz Arnett, Document Controller; Sophie Walker, Personal Assistant; Theresa McCann, Civil & Structural Apprentice and Paul Lawrence, Business Development Manager. To show attendees what we get involved in at On Line Design, Agnes demonstrated how to use some of our surveying equipment and explained how important it was to deliver an accurate survey for our projects.
