Stress Engineer

I joined On Line Design in June 2006 when they were expanding and encouraging personnel from other industries. My previous background was the food industry but with On Line Design's help and support I got my foot in the door of Oil & Gas Engineering, and relocated back to Grimsby after five years in Birmingham.

My first job at On Line Design was in the Hull office working on the Rough Platform rebuild. Subsequently I moved to the Immingham office in November 2007 and whilst progressing to the position of Senior Piping Engineer, became a Chartered Mechanical Engineer.

I have held several roles during my time with On Line Design including Designer, Project Engineer and stand in Piping Office Manager. I particularly enjoy my current role as a Stress Engineer working on piping and pressure vessels. There are lots of new challenges and things to learn but On Line Design have provided the necessary training to enable me to progress and develop.

I consider myself very lucky, since I really enjoy my work; I meet a variety of Clients, have the opportunity to visit sites, but fortunately don’t get involved in too many meetings. Importantly, I get huge satisfaction from having an input to projects on some of the most complex installations in the U.K.

Although my wife also works for the On Line Group, we rarely see each other at work since she is in the Accounts Department. We have two children who manage to keep us busy when we are not working, but in between I do try to keep reasonably fit and actually enjoy running.

I joined On Line Design in 2013 as an Administrative Assistant providing support to the senior management and design teams in the Hull office.

Having worked at various small companies as an Office Administrator, I wanted to work for a larger organisation where I could have the opportunity to develop my skills and broaden my experience.

An additional part of my role is to provide document control services and issue work packs to our Clients. Working as part of a team, but also taking ownership of my own daily tasks gives me great satisfaction, and in addition to making the work enjoyable I also feel that I am valued within the business. As the business continues to grow, I hope to also continue my own personal development and I’m sure that On Line Design will give me whatever help and support I need in order to do that.

Although, I really enjoy the time that I spend at work, I also value and make good use of my own personal time. Outside of working hours, I enjoy visiting different places and taking walks in the countryside, in addition to socialising with my friends and listening to all types of music.

Head of Surveying

After completing my HND in Civil Engineering at Leeds Metropolitan University, I relocated back to the Grimsby area and joined On Line Design on a temporary basis to assist with a major piping survey on the Tata Scunthorpe site. After a short time I was offered and accepted a permanent staff position within the Company.

I am currently based at the Immingham office, and during the past 4 years I have been offshore trained and had many other development opportunities which have all helped me towards my application for Chartered Surveyor status.

My role as a Surveyor gives me the opportunities to work on and offshore at various sites, and one of the most interesting aspects is being involved right at the start of many major projects. Recently, I have been involved in specifying, selecting and purchasing a new 3D laser scanning station which enables the Company to offer increased facilities to its clients.

Outside of work, I enjoy keeping fit and travelling abroad whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Instrument Engineer

Although I served my apprenticeship as an Electrical/Instrument Mechanic at Hydro Agri, I always wanted to work in a design office and when Hydro Agri closed I saw the opportunity to apply for a position at On Line Design. Since On Line had always provided staff for the Hydro drawing office, we were already known to each other and I joined the Immingham office in February 2001.

Since joining the company, On Line Design have encouraged, challenged and supported me and I am currently employed as an Instrument Engineer managing the E & I team within the dedicated P66 design office on Manby Road. I really enjoy this position and being part of a committed team that all share the same target to produce quality engineering projects.

In my spare time I am normally kept busy by my family and DIY, but I am also currently obsessed with running, which I started in order to try and control my weight and fitness. I’m a member of Cleethorpes A.C. and about to compete in my first marathon.
